PALANGKARAYA- llegal natural resource management is still common in the Kalimantan region, one of which is Unlicensed Mining (PETI). Looking at various aspects, PETI activities have a significant impact on the economic sector and the environmental sector. However, on the one hand, there are many questions about this PETI activity, starting from why it happened, what impact it had, and who should be responsible for this.

The Kalimantan Indigenous Film Festival team together with Garda Animalia conducted a film screening and held discussions to get answers on this matter. The screening and discussion of the film Longgok (C) Gold: Mengeruk Emas, Membangun Cemas was attended by 20 people from various communities in Palangka Raya City, mostly youth. The communities are FORMADIKSI UPR, PIK M-Barendeng UPR, Formadiksi UPR, BEM STIKES Eka Harapan, IMM Palangka Raya, and HIMAPAKAT Palangka Raya.

The screening and discussion which was held on 29th October 2022 moderated by Muhammad Andi with Liana from Garda Animalia as the main speaker. Liana explained that the film had not been officially launched, and the purpose of this screening and discussion was to get feedback and responses from youth, especially in Central Kalimantan, about the film and the content. Liana also explained that the screening and discussion in Palangka Raya which took place at the Ranu Welum HQ was part of a screening roadshow which was previously conducted in South Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.

"This film opens our eyes to the fact that environmental damage caused by human greed is real, and this is not only happening in West Kalimantan but also in Central Kalimantan," said Iyal, one of the audience. Risky from IMM PalangkaRaya also said, “This film depicts what is actually happening in our society now, especially in my village area in Katingan. Like a lot of manipulation, government ignorance, unclear permits, and environmental damage." (Andi)
