Since last year, we started our ironwood nursery with support from Youth Initiative for Landscape GLF. It was done under of the Restoration Steward program in which one of our young leaders, Sumarni, became the part of it. It takes eight months for Ulin seed to grow the leaves and ready to be planted.

Along with the commemoration of World’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we planted ten Ulin baby trees with each tree dedicated to organization, community and individual who have been supporting Ranu Welum in the past eight years. Wally Tham Big Red Button, David Metcalf, Global Landscape Forum, Women Earth Alliance are some of them. As Ulin itself is a sacred and meaningful tree which is full of cultural values and wisdoms, each tree represents our gratitude toward those who believe in our works to protect Kalimantan forest and fight for indigenous rights.

Roro and Shinta planted an Ulin tree on behalf of our friend Wally Tham, who have been supporting Ranu Welum for the past seven years.

Ulin baby trees.

Currently we have thirty-three Ulin baby trees at our nursery center. These trees will be planted by the end of September in our new-purchased land nearby Talekoi village. This will be a beginning of our ironwood conservation. Our next plan is to grow 100 more Ulin seedlings for upcoming year. This can only possible with your support.
