STOCKHOLM | The founder of the Ranu Welum Foundation, Emmanuela Shinta explained the results of a meeting of the United Nations climate conference on 2-3 June 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden.

She mentioned, the Stockholm+50 meeting for Action, Renewal and Trust that carries the slogan Only One Earth resulted in many recommendations, declarations, consultations, reflections, initiatives, policy frameworks and reports all of which lead to one goal, namely, a healthy planet for the prosperity of all.
One of the most interesting and important points of the outcomes is rebuilding relationship of trust for stronger solidarity and cooperation through recognizing the role of developing countries in promoting sustainability, supporting capacity building and technology transfer to be able to implement international environmental agreements, respecting commitments to mobilize $100 billion annually to finance climate movements in developing countries and enable stakeholders such as youth, indigenous peoples and local communities to participate in policy making at national and international levels.
Furthermore, Shinta mentioned that in terms of declarations and initiatives, there is intergenerational responsibility which includes global youth reports, statements of attitudes from indigenous peoples and signing of the Ministerial Statement on Future Generation; interconnectivity which is a monitoring tool for the transparency and accountability of the private sector in its commitment to net zero carbon and pollution-free activities; and implementation of opportunities including the provision of green jobs and local financial decisions that support nature and climate.

She also explained, talking about the forests of Kalimantan and the role of the Dayak indigenous peoples in protecting biodiversity at the international level is quite difficult. Apart from Emmanuela Shinta who is a member of the Advisory Board and Roro Ardya Garini who was specially invited to represent the Ranu Welum Foundation, the Indonesian delegation who attended Stockholm+50 only came from the government sector.
"It's not easy, because only those who are accredited by the United Nations can attend. However, this shows that the inclusiveness of multi-stakeholders at the national level is a real challenge that must be faced," she explained.
Four months before the conference was held, Shinta had participated in the regular advisory board meeting to overview and guide the direction of the conference to make it more effective. In every opportunity, Shinta always emphasizes the importance of inclusiveness in the process of implementing international policies towards real action on the ground.
For Shinta and her colleagues, real "battles" take place on the field, but the real victory is influenced by decisions made at the meeting table. The commitment to support the youth movement for climate and indigenous peoples' initiatives to protect forests must be fulfilled by the Indonesian government.
"In the future, Ranu Welum through the Youth Act movement will continue to try to bring the Kalimantan issue to be discussed at the UN forum," she added.
